So who am I and how can I help you with ETF investing?  Well, I’ve been involved in investing and funds in one form or another for decades now.  As you might imagine, there are many ways to invest, and I’ve done quite a few of them.

I’ve bought stock funds, bond funds and even commodity funds.  And I’ve also speculated and traded options funds in the commodity futures market.

By the way, most people don’t know that the commodity futures market is 16 times bigger than the stock market.  There’s a huge amount of money moving through those markets on a daily basis in crude oil, gold, silver, wheat, corn, pork bellies and many more.  And yes, I’ve even speculated in pork bellies too (that’s what bacon is made from).  And who doesn’t love bacon :-) .  Speaking of bacon, China just recently announced a pork ETF (not recommended) which just goes to show you how diverse ETFs can be.

And within the stock funds, I’ve bought and sold US stock funds, large company funds, small company funds, international stock funds, emerging market funds   And sector funds like healthcare, energy, financial, etc.  Also silver and gold mining stock funds, and silver and gold Exchange Traded Funds (ETF’s) as well.

And dividend paying funds, including high yielding ones.  I really like those, by the way.

And as a former financial consultant and licensed stockbroker, I bought stock and bond funds to my clients out of my office in Coral Gables, Florida.  (including American Growth Fund and American Bond fund – which are still good today).

Now, if this all sounds complicated, don’t worry.  Because we’re just going to get into the simplest things.  They’re all you really need to do.  And that can save you from making some beginners mistakes like I made when I started.

Because years back, in the 1970′s, my first fund investment choices weren’t so great.  I was aware of exactly one, which was the only choice offered in my employers profit sharing plan.  And it wasn’t even an ETF (because they hadn’t become widely available yet).  I just had some vague idea that it had a bunch of stocks in it.

And I wouldn’t have known much what to do with other funds or ETFs back then anyway, even if I’d tried.

Does this story have a familiar sound to you with some of your investments?  Have you been puzzled by the funds in your 401k.  I was, perhaps, an investor just like you.

Years later I became a financial consultant and licensed stockbroker working for a large broker-dealer in the US.  And I also continued to study and invest in funds.  And through much research, study, trial and error, I began to understand the answer to my basic question of how to create and preserve wealth with them, and even better, ETFs as they became more widely available online.

And if I could do that, starting from such a humble beginning, you can too.

So let’s look at how exchange traded fund investing can increase and protect your wealth.  Let’s get to the basic questions.  And those are, “What are exchange-traded funds and why invest in them?”

So that’s the preview.  The book will be released in just a couple of months.  In the meantime, you might be interested in my book Stock Investing for Beginners – How To Buy Your First Stock And Grow Your Money.  It’s been well received, with over 2000 5-Star reader reviews.

Here’s what one reader had to say…

I FINALLY understand stocks!!  -  5 Stars

“This book is a work of genius!!! I tried to get into stocks years ago and none of the references for beginners I came across made any sense, so I gave up. I decided to give it another try and some references captured the very basics like “what is a stock?” “why is investing important?” but after that sent me for a loop again.

I decided not to give up again and that’s what led me to this book.  John Roberts simplifies EVERYTHING! He puts in a relative perspective so you can understand it better. Like saying an exchange is basically an auction. He relates something unfamiliar to something familiar so you can grasp it better. It helps a lot to be put this way.

And I love that he centers the book solely on stocks. Other references start throwing in bonds and funds when you barely understood stocks to begin with, making you twice as confused.

I also love that he reiterates some important points because sometimes I’ll forget something and wind up going back and try to read it again, but he brings up the points again to make it easier to stick. And being new to the stock market I need that reminder.

Upon reading this book, I was finally able to get a stockbroker account and begin investing with confidence. Something I never thought I could do. I can’t wait to read his other books!” – I. Espinosa
